The Board of Directors

The Board of Directors of  Altan Capital, S.G.I.I.C., S.A.U., is the highest governing body and is at the top of the organization structure. It is formed by executive and non-executive directors to align the strategies and objectives of all the Group entities and monitor their results. It is composed of the following members:

Claudio Aguirre

Additionally, Claudio led the privatizations and takeover processes that took place in Spain during the 1990s (e.g., Telefónica, Repsol and Endesa), creating an important network of professional contacts in Europe and the United States. Claudio Aguirre has a degree in Economics and Business Administration from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, an MBA from the Instituto de Empresa de Madrid, and an AMP from Harvard Business School. He is also a Registered Representative of the Financial Services Authority “FSA” in the United Kingdom, and Series 7 Series 63 Representative of the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) in New York. Claudio is currently a Member of the International Advisory Board of Goldman Sachs & Co.

Claudio Aguirre, has developed a long professional career (more than 24 years) in “Corporate Finance” before founding Altamar and Altan Capital. During that time, Claudio was responsible in Spain for The Chase Manhattan Bank and Goldman Sachs Investment Banking (14 years, from 1980 to 1994).

From 1994 to 2003, Claudio was head of Investment Banking and Wealth Management Services for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) at Merrill Lynch. As Merrill Lynch’s top executive for EMEA, Claudio was responsible for Private Equity in the region.

Santiago Aguirre Gil de Biedma

Santiago is the president of Savills Aguirre Newman. He was founder, partner and co-president of Real Estate Consultant Group Aguirre Newman, an independent company founded along with Stephen Newman in 1988 and led by Santiago Aguirre Gil de Biedma until 2017, the year in which the merger with Savills Spain took place.  

During his professional career, Santiago was also a co-founder of the real estate investment and asset management firm,  Zaphir Asset Management. Currently, he is founder and member of the governing board of the association of real estate consultants, Asociación de Consultores Inmobiliarios (ACI).  

Before starting his career as an entrepreneur in the real estate sector, Santiago was the delegate of the Ministry of Tourism in Menorca. After that period, he was director of investments and promotions at the international consultancy Richard Ellis.

He has a degree in Law from the University Complutense of Madrid, a master’s degree in Business Administration from the IE and is a Fellow Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).  

José Luis Molina

Prior to founding Altamar and Altan Capital, he worked for Lehman Brothers for over 10 years, in New York and London. He was a Senior Vice President at Lehman Brothers, and one of the managers in Europe responsible for the origination and execution of the European Buyouts of the Lehman Brothers Merchant Fund.

The Lehman Brothers Merchant Banking Group was one of the pioneers in the Buyout sector, managing some US$3,500mn in 2004 (completing 27 transactions). José Luis was responsible for transactions including investments in Eutelsat (France), Inmarsat (UK), New Skies (Netherlands), Intelsat (US) and ITP (Spain).

Prior to joining Lehman Brothers’ Private Equity team, Jose Luis worked in the Investment Banking division as a member of the Global Technology Group, first in New York and later in London. Before Lehman Brothers, José Luis worked in the M&A team at Credit Lyonnais/Iberagentes Bolsa in Madrid between 1991 and 1993. José Luis holds a degree in Economics and Business Administration from C.U.N.E.F (Madrid 1985-1990) and an MBA with honors from Columbia University (New York 1993-1995).

Stephen Newman

Graduated in Urban Estate Management by the Polytechnic of Central London, he started his career in Edward Erdman (London), a British company specialized in shopping centers. He later joined the Valuation Department of CB Richard Ellis in Madrid. Finally, before setting up Aguirre Newman, he held the position of Project Manager at Prima Inmobiliaria.

Since October 1988, Stephen Newman has been President and Founding Partner of Aguirre Newman, a company he created together with Santiago Aguirre.

Stephen has over 30 years experience in the real estate sector, having carried out and led numerous real estate investment and consultancy projects and is a Fellow Member of The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

He currently serves as CEO of Savills Aguirre Newman.

Fernando Olaso

Managing Partner of Altan Capital since its incorporation. Prior to Altamar, Fernando was a Founding Partner of Capital Alianza (1996-2006), a private equity firm focused on the mid-market, where he led 13 investments worth EUR 160mn (US$237mn), 7 of which were on behalf of a joint venture (in the US, the UK, France, Norway, Russia and Spain), obtaining an IRR of over 20% on the investments made and with a multiple of close to 3x the capital invested.

Previously he was part of the Mergers and Acquisitions team of UBS in London (1995-1996).

Miguel Zurita

Miguel has extensive experience in the private equity sector where he has worked for over 25 years, having coordinated multiple direct private equity investments in a wide range of sectors. Until he joined Altamar, Miguel was a senior partner at Mercapital, a leading investor in the Spanish middle market, where he not only led investments but also actively participated in fundraising and the expansion of the firm in Latin America. Previously, he was Investment Director at Mexcapital, a pioneering private equity firm in Mexico.

Miguel holds an MBA with honors from INSEAD, a degree in Law and Business from ICADE, and has been a professor of Financial Management at ICADE and the IEB.

Jaime Pascual

Member of the Board of Altan Capital

Since October 2018 Jaime has been CEO of Savills Aguirre Newman. Until then, he held the position of Chief Executive Officer. Previously he was responsible for the Investment Department of Aguirre Newman, from where he advised on numerous real estate transactions in Spain. In 1997 he worked for the United Nations (New York), in the Human Resources Department, redesigning the recruitment process. In 1996-97 he worked for The Princeton Review (Florida, USA) as Financial Controller.

Jaime has a Master in International Business from the University of Florida (Florida, USA), a Master in Real Estate from the Instituto de Empresa (Madrid) and a degree in Economics and Business from the Universidad Complutense (Madrid).
